How do you choose a b-school when the top 10 choices seem out of reach !!!

Now its time to pen few thoughts when all our pyaari juniors are busy in their winter internships for the aspiring MBA students and providing a few light on whether MHRM is a choice to them or not !!!

Recently a post popped up in MBA News section of Pagalguy ... thought adding those points and moving forward would be a better insight for students/aspirers for the course

How do you choose a b-school when the top 10 choices seem out of reach !!!

Before going to the justification or explanation to each and every point first i would like to pen few points about the title !!! Definitely we are not either in top 10 or top 100 range of b-schools in India ... Because we neither sponsor the rankings nor publicize like the other b-schools do !!!  Dont blame us blame the govt regulations and rules for the same !! afteral its an sarkari institute .... Also to be precise we are not those regular MBA programs, we are a specialized Masters course in Human Resource Management offered by the department of HSS in association with business and law school of IIT Kharagpur. Definitely we are one among the top 5 schools which offer HR programs

So going forward

1. A b-school is as good (or bad) as its faculty

No need to boast on the same !! we are IITs and faculty is our trademark ... Our core faculty includes Damodar Suar, KBL srivastava, RK pradan, Chhanda Chakraborty etc.,  the list goes on ... More detailed can be found in the following link

Google them and find results for yourself !!!

2. I learn as much (if not more) from my peers and seniors as I do from the professors

The beauty of having a small batch .... is always a plus and Alumni mentorship program always keep in touch with you other than the tremendous support by the seniors who guide you as mentors through respective committees. That is how i learned and that is how my juniors are learning ... and yes it is a viscious circle !!! over here not only the funda of academics but abt the profs and way to behave and way to enjoy and explore the campus and thoda sa gyaan with jyaada sa bhakar !!! part and parcel of life :)

3. An MBA does not entitle me to a job; I need to be trained well for the industry

If we accept that b-schools are preparing you largely for corporate careers ahead, their pedagogy has to align itself to serve this objective. There are three parts to this – the curriculum content, the delivery methodology and the assessment methods.

As said by the pagal guy yes we not only train you for industry but we lead you through examples and live case studies... !!! proximity of reaching various manufacturing plants of Jemshedpur and Kolkata where HR is defined it became a routine to have the idustry specialists and leaders for the guest lectures, case studies and added to it ( thanks to the international links of profs ) the video conferences with people from the global companies like PepsiCo, Atlas Copco, H&M etc.,

4. This is probably my last chance to ‘live a campus life’

Once an IITian is an IITian always !!!

This is not just a statement but a fact and to cross check ask any IITian ... he/she would be more happy to share the life over here !!! I can write a blog on this but will just add few lines once quoted by my classmate

Day in Life of a IITian

*A new day dawns with the chirping of the birds and the loud cry of the alarm, followed
by a flurry of activities, some known and some unknown. KGPians should consider
themselves lucky if they manage to grab a quick bite before huffing and puffing their way
to the classes in their bicycle.

*Classes are enjoyable and thought provoking with case studies, presentations and role
plays. KGPians usually get a cup of coffee from NESCAFE to remain all ears to one
lecture after the other. Just when they think that the class has ended, there is a surprise
quiz waiting for them or sometimes a great guest lecture.

*After the grueling day, the students unwind with a cup of hot chai and fried maggi at
TIKKA. The greenery around is so mesmerizing; that it entices them to take a long
stroll along the lush green paths. They also take the heat off by engaging in a game of
basketball or lawn tennis.

*But KGPians never forget that they have an assignment to submit tomorrow, so
they rush back and start working on it, sometimes alone, sometimes as a group. The
brainstorming is at its best when they are having dinner at VEGGIES.

*Few hours into the assignment, they realize that they have to put up a good fight against
their drooping eyelids which makes them rush to CCD for a steaming mug of coffee.

*Finally KGPians return to their rooms and hit off their bed realizing that their day has
come to an end with just a few hours for their day to begin.

5 The deeper my interface with the industry, the better my readiness for it

As mentioned earlier guest lectures are part of the curriculum ... To name a few HCL Head Internal Communications, Atlas Copco Sustainable business department, H&M CSR Head Asia Pacific, JSPL HR Head, Tata Motors Corporate HR Head, Hutchisson Head Recruitment, Deloittee Head HR East and the list goes on !!!

Other than this the beauty of studying here over here is the opportunity to intern in winter other than the regular summers and live projects. I personally did with pepsiCo and my juniors are with tetrapak, Samsung, Continental to name a few !!!

6. I need a good start to my career – a sturdy launching pad

Regarding placements --- Hmmm being an course offered by IIT we are not ready to twist our packages so last year it ended with 8.95 LPA as average with companies like PwC, Gallup etc.,  !!! For more details

But we would like to make clear dont come to MHRM assuming IIT Kgp placements because Facebook and microsoft do come to IIT but for engineering graduates not for HRs ... So to be very precise we have a dedicated 5 member team in seniors and 5 more in juniors. ofcourse we do come under central IIT for placements and 4-5 companies consider us but we are allowed to interact with the company personnel of B.tech placements which improves the placement scenario every year

2011-13 batch placements are going on and our placecom would come forward with a  detailed report soon !!! As of now companies visited are Gallup, Jaipur Rugs Group, Saltodeefee, Tata Technologies etc.,

7. There is a lot of noise in the market – most of it irrelevant

I have a few favourites here – the size and number of advertisements, the offer of free laptops, tie-ups with foreign universities you haven’t heard of, guarantee of 100% placements (it is illogical to believe that an educational institute can guarantee anyone a job – the jobs are offered by the industry)

As quoted by PG ... Yes no course do provide a guarantee of placement ( forget about the admission coordinators who market the course ... its our job) atleast not in IIT but what we can say is you would be given enough number of chances to get the opportunity for the same. If you are unsuccessful even after 11-13 chances of sitting in interviews to companies even II*****MMMMM cant help you !!!

8. The best source of information is the customer – the past and current students of the school

Yes you can reach any one of the alumni or Present students !!! its never in our history to misguide the aspirers but only to guide you !!! they are instances where we ourselves told aspirers to choose a "XXXX" B-school than the MHRM according to the situations !!!

So that brings me to the end of the column but feel free to reach us back !!! And this is How i Mapped MHRM to the question how to choose a B-School when top 10 are out of my choice !!! You can do a similar analysis for the respective B School choice of yours !!! Wishing you all the ebst for the GD-PI sessions ahead

Winter Internship @ PepsiCo

Hello Folks,

A very awesome summer Internship experience over here at Bangalore but i know as promised earlier this post would be dedicated to my Winter Internship experience at PepsiCo. The name PepsiCo itself excites right..!!! Why not the brand that drives entire world not only India crazy. Yes I am in there when Shewag had a wonderful 200 in one day cricket and when India stumbled at Aussiez pitches. I am there in a place where the temperature went down to 0.8` C for a south Indian guy who thinks 24 is the coldest temperature ever. The true fact is that i hate all PepsiCo products but ended in drinking one or other in the office of 45 days internship ( Its Free folks except Tropicana including Lays ).

Invitation for the PepsiCo Day

First before the off shots let me get in to the point how i grabbed the internship at the FMCG biggie of the world. Its an interesting story. Krishna whose only asset or positive is networking was rejected in the placement committee selections. Surprized not only me but also my fellow friends (few). Its ok every has thier own selection criteria as the senior placecom had. And days went by with internal politics in the class to its peak but the fire that has litten on my ass for my rejection in placecom made me shift the networking time from facebook to LinkedIn - The professional Networking site. With basic foundation course from my ex-manager Mr.Manu Sri Kumar the real Alchemist of my life i started building my profile and adding people. With strong determination of restriction to members as only HRs in my profile it grew day by day. Had my own strategy of asking the profile connections to be my mentors for the Masters course and moved the tools of tactics to regular interaction on a weekly basis with various discussions on case studies , Burning HR issues, Real time problems. This not only resulted in knowledge sharing but also my Winter Internship Opportunity making use of the 30 day holiday period between semesters. Resulted in query posting the opportunity of an Internship for a duration of 45 days with my profiles finally landed me with four opportunities . . Bharati Cements, Apollo Hospitals, teleDNA and the Mighty PepsiCo. Thanks to LinkedIn.

Wanna Have a look at my LinkedIn Profile here it goes : Krishna Vamsi - LinkedIn

Starting my journey for the first time in my life to the northern part of country landed in the Capital City of Nation New Delhi with a wonderful travelling experience in Rajdhani( Of course if travelling to Delhi is first time its obvious that travelling in Rajdhani is also for the first time). Had a beautiful welcome from one of my PagalGuy friend Annu Pandey and helped me to enter the most prestigious and modern Cheez of Delhi - The Metro. Guess wat I am here staying with my the old same manager " Manu Sri Kumar" who was shifted to Career Builder - India as Marketing Manager to New Delhi location. Excitement to the peaks entered the office of PepsiCo on the first day with warm welcome of Katrina ( Model for Slice) posters every where inside the office. I thought it was the motivation factor for PepsiCo employees to work hard harder and hardest. Greeted with a smile by my manager "Vidhu Arora" entered in to the HR floor of PepsiCo India. To my surprise it was so cool ... Not the AC idiots .. the way it looked completely filled by posters, hangouts, fruits, Pepsi machines, people chilling out.

PepsiCo India Corporate Office - HR - Gurgaon

Had an initial discussion with my mentor and given task of understanding the Intranet of PepsiCo. Surprized her by completing it fast with suggestable changes that can make it look better really impressed her ( Over Performance yeah yeah ..!!!). She said this would be one of your project other than handling the Performance development review handling of entire India. It shocked me when i came to know that i would be single point of contact for all the regional HRs regarding the PDR. The entire PDR(Performance Development Review) was handled in the form of a contest of KBC with Shrimati Tik Tiki and Padhao with entire India Plant locations and Business units being divided in to Teams. There were stages and deadlines and contests for each and every level of PDR. I was asked to take the feedback from all HRs which as usual excited me with here and there tasks of Internal Communication which i used to complete in jet speed and my Vidhu got accustomed to my speed and used to send me for movies in case she finds me sitting quite. Forgot to mention PVR is just a metro away from PepsiCo office. As days pass on i got the complete control on PepsiCo Org Structure, the PDR evaluation module, Made friends with all India HRs of PepsiCo ( Some even used to discuss movie reviews, Breakfast varieties and Cricket Scores). On the other hand the Revamping of Intranet work also went on parallely. But some way or other i always tried to interact with the talent Acquisition Team where my heart lies in though I am working with Organisation Capability Team. Finally Vidhu told "by the end of Internship i will make u like the OC team and domain" and yes she was successful in same. She made me love the Organisation capability domain and the team. And the Winter Internship came to an end with successful completion of PDR contest and also revamping of Intranet ( Which is implemented ). The last day was the word with Suchithra the head of OC team who started asking me the question - " Tell me now which is the best OC or TA. i replied TA is always best but OC is also good" She had a small smile on her face and offered me a Summer Internship and PPI ( In case if i cannot come for summers) and gave tips of HR manager and his first job and ofcourse a small bouquet of flowers with a certificate of Internship Completion and also the stipend.

The HR Team Of PepsiCo India

Besides the Internship had the awesome Delhi food specially the "Chola Batura" which was almost my food for more than 26 days in 45 day stay, watched numerous movies atleast 2 in a week, Spectacular Delhi People, Specially the hot --- real hot girls of Delhi .. I should mention here one interesting fact ... If the average .. sorry below average girls in the class pose with attitude then wat should these girls do. But these girls were sweet by heart. Had few friends and 15 days of having the mighty " Royal Enfield" made me roam Gurgaon like a Prince. Before winding up couldnt resist to mention this .. The so called Placecom that is formed by seniors excelled in its inefficiency despite of the efforts of  few of them( One being my room mate - Hard working dead cell) they could turn out with zero Summer Internships by the time i returned back to campus from my Winter Internship on Jan 15, 2012. Thats it for now folks . Hope i haven't Bored.

Sneak Peak : Next time its all about the Politics/ Dirty games/Marriageable Ages and my shift of committees from Media PR to Placecom ... Stay tuned... !!!!

Fests are Integral part of IITs Life ..!!!

Hi Fellas !!!

Its long very long since i put down my time to write a blog ... Admissions ... Placements ... Bahuth Busy ho gaya mein .... Hope the before line doesn't have any grammatical Hindi mistakes. Ok lets come to the point of discussion ... Fests... yes they are quite common and so frequent that one week or other with one department or other comes up with a fest... Most noted ones are

  • Spring Fest - Asia's Largest Cultural fest
  • Kshitij - Asia's Largest Technical Fest
  • Saamanjasya - A business fest with Social Cause
  • Anoogoonj - The HR Fest
  • Samudramanthan... the list goes on and on and on ... Each and every department celebrates its own fest. Boss do not forget this is the "Grand Old Daddy of IITs"
But one thing always wonders me why do these small kids(B.Techs) always tag this Asia's or World's Largest tag to every fest. But i couldn't stop myself writing this .. the way these kids co ordinate and organise ... Awesome is a small word. And here goes Spring fest... Chill Winter... Hot Gals... Non stop music... Celebrities...this time Vishal And Shekar... Rock bands ... Black and Band Competition ...Non stop dance ... hell lot of events.. food courts... 4 days of full Masti ...

Next comes Kshitij .. this is a technical fest which happens just after one week of spring fest... This consists of eminent speakers and this time a fabulous Laser show and Dirt Biking(Cancelled at last moment) were organized with hundreds of students all over country filling the campus again for 4 days.

Saamanjasya .. this is VGSOMs fest but i was the media head over there. Fun part is going to kolkata for sponsorships and in particular to FM channels, News Papers, Facebook Handling, Taking interviews of guests.. Made some good friends with HRs who came as guests... Also MHRM organised Samvit quiz event .. Ofcourse I am the one handling it with help from Seniors(MHRM)... Point to be noted .. MHRM gals gave hand in between who are supposed to co ordinate with me ... The funniest thing is though they knew they did nothing not even coming to the fest they give gyaan all the time ... Unbearable god... Ok K K ... And the notable event is the sale and display of hand made products right from jewelry to show case items ... A fun filled and fantabulous experience of 45 days ...

Of course 2010-11 MHRM Initiative of Anoogoonj - The HR fest ... Our department fest with case studies, Quizes.. Guest lectures... Dinners.. Stage Shows(Spectacular classical performance) immediately after 1 week of Saamanjasya... I am appointed i would say compelled to do the hospitality team ... Guess what ... Gals who gave hand in Saamanjasya are working here ... Hmm smiles again ... THe so called "Marriagebles are like small kids ... Name it "Department Love "... it went well me running here and there all the time to receive guests and outstation participants... Again got some new friends and ofcourse HR friends too... !!!

With all the above and added with department fests ... waiting for next academic year to bang in to experience the same .. taking off now ... And sneak peak of next post would be "My Winter Internship at PepsiCo... Stay Tuned"

Celebrations & MHRM made my video making skills boom up ...!!!

I never knew I am good at video making until and unless my videos took the eye out of my fellow students . Funny part is that some waited for a new video where as some literally started fighting with me to stop making videos... Must be jealous ... well well well before going in to detail i would like to pay my courtesy to the inspirer Mr.Manu Sri Kumar my Management Guru who introduced me to this Video making.

The spirited mind didn't kept quiet , used its creativity while presenting the chance to win the Best leader award for Campus Ambassador Initiative which replaced a boring presentation with an interesting video. I should mention one of my junior help Sirisha Reddy who helped to carve the video in to a final shape. Here it goes my first ever video making which earned me the Best leader in Nation 2010-11.

Later on this moved to making of Dance videos and fun overloaded i should say. here goes one among them

and as soon as Joined MHRM the first chance was to make a wish to all my batch mates who were ready to face the first ever mid semester exams. And examz starting tomorrow and accustomed with 3 hour study i felt bored and made a video to inspire them though the real part is that it wasted my time and my friends too. But some how or other people liked it . Here it goes ...!!!

Then comes the chance to make a Video for Teachers Day celebrations which i remember was stopped when I'm 6 th class. People praised it but dont know how far it is good. Here it goes

And birthdays the best part in IITians life .. We here celebrate Birthdays In our own style and it has pre designed process though

Here is the MHRian way of celebrating the Birthdays ...!

The agenda follows this way

11.30 PM - GPL  starts
11.55 PM - Reaching the cake cutting venue
12.00 AM - Cake
12 - 1 AM - decorating the face of birthday guy with cake + cream + eggs + cooldrink + GPL
7.00 PM - Party starts

then ** Sensor **  dont ask me wat party & where ...!

To know more about the Birthday here is a short video of the happening

And we haven't.... literally speaking I haven't left the Internship too and we celebrated in our own way. Have a glimpse and you wish never to celebrate an Internship

Every Dog has its own day and here comes the revenge from my friends ... Laga laga GPL with believe me 2 full bottles of coke( Coco cola) drowned on me ... Though i secured Winter Internship at PepsiCo... I am already scared and decided not to share about my Summer Internship to any one . The worst part is that with pain after GPL i made my own video .... Here it goes again ...

Hope i have bored with all my videos will catch up next time with fest fever at the Grand Old Daddys of IITs...
Bye Folks

Eating Joints and Societie's life at IIT Kharagpur

Now itz time to explore the IIT KGP societies and committees

The list is endless but still would like to write a few

AIESEC worlds largest student community
Telugu , English ,Hindi , Bengali Dramatics society
Music society
Debating Society
Technology Dance Society
Vivekananda Social Service Community
CRY child rights

Name a community you will find one here
Except the Bengali Dramatics Society everything mentioned above has a representative from MHRM ... Kudos we are enthusiastic people . Cannot spend life sitting in rooms and Facebooking all the time but to explore the opportunities to come in par with BTECHians Dominated IITs .. We are here to make our impressions

Personally I'm part of Debating society with status of a research board member which gave me chance to explore a new experience i.e., Model United Nation. meeting the most pro active youth of the country was and is a pleasure. With a debutante performance grabbed me "The Best delegate- High Commendation" as a delegate of France in security Council.

The other zeal or passion that has been curbed inside me is acting and Becoming a memeber of Dramatics society not only gave me a chance to act but to take up the role of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. IIT life is always rocking.

Now comes the most interesting part of any B-School life

Eating joints

Bengal itsel;f is famous for its food specially sweets & fish
So as usual you find a cheap food here when compared to other places .

Besides the mess facility some halls of residence possess canteens which operate between 5 PM- 3 AM

Some of them are

V.S - Alwayz house full
JCB - Not a bad choice
HJB - Andhra canteen
MMM - galz r not allowed
LLR - famous for itz chicken variety

and most of the people spend their time more at "TIKKA" rather than in classes . U get here all junk food with added special tea ...

U also have a couple of restaurants

SAHARA
HERITAGE
VEGGIES
EGGIES

and you have a tech market which have all fruits/vegetables/milk available including stationery

Besides these the most best place in the whole campus is "CCD"...Many things happen over coffee ...

thats it for the day

Young India Fellowship

Hello Guys

This is a little off-track from the life @ MHRM but still I would like to share the experience of a MHRMian in Young India Fellowship Interview. For all those people who never heard Young India Fellowship here is the link where you can get an insight regarding the Fellowship

The best way is to start with the fellowship when I heard that fellows are coming to the campus to interact with the students but missed it in epic style by assuming wrong date. But sincerely speaking once you go through the website there is no necessity to interact with any one. It is quite crystal clear. After cracking esteemed B-Schools like NITIE, XIMB, IIFM, TAPMI; I joined MHRM, IIT Kharagpur with a passion towards HR Function. The application ask you each and every detail which results in nothing to be asked in the Interview.

The 3 important phases in the selection process for the fellowship are
  • ·         Application
  • ·         Telephonic Interview
  • ·         Personal Interview & Group Discussion & Group Activity

Once you were shortlisted based on your application you have to undergo a Telephonic round.

Telephonic Interview:
3 Simple questions:
  • o   How do you know about YIF?
  • o   Why do you want to join YIF?
  • o   Your Internship/Project related questions?

This basically test whether the details mentioned in the applications are true or just copy pasted .
Next comes the final selection for personal Interview. PI round takes place in 4 parts of the country New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata.

Personal Interview:
I am first surprised to see 20 students in the afternoon session on Sunday because only 10 were active on the Facebook page. God even now people are not active in Facebook. Puzzled but then half of the team is sent to the GD and remaining half to the Interviews. And interview panels are 2 and to be precise 2 types. One panel interviews for 30 min and the other for 3 min. And to my luck I was sent to the panel that interviewed me for 37 min. Here is a detail about the Interview.

Me:  Good Morning sir
Int: Good Afternoon Krishna , take your seat. Give me two min to take a look in to the Application.
(He had a detail look in to my application underlying the mentioning in the application)
Int: Ok Krishna, You are a masters student in IIT why do you want to join YIF?
Me: Yes Sir I’m a master’s student in Human Resource at IIT Kharagpur.
Int: But why do you come to Delhi for Interview?
Me: Presently I’m doing my winter Internship at PEPSICO , Gurgaon . So I thought why I shouldn’t take the interview as it is on Sunday so that I can interact with fellows and also can see the campus.
Int: Great carry on. Tell me why YIF after masters and also about the Internships you did . you do have a long list.
Me: Sure sir. Though I have been studying in one of the reputed institutes of the country, I never enjoyed studying with peers. Most of the guys in the course joined either being frustrated in the software job or joined because they were not able to get placed in any companies. So learning experience is minimised. And though we have faculty with Ph.Ds. and experience of each of them equals my age but since it’s a govt institution I need not comment either on their teaching style or on the passion of them towards the course and students.  So I desired a learning experience with top students of the country and faculty renowned from Multinational universities. Are these reasons good enough for me to apply for the course in liberal arts?
Int: Sorry to interrupt can you say wat do u mean by liberal arts?
Me: Liberal arts include art, painting, sculpture, anthropology, ethics, and communication l. In simple words its study of our childhood passions. For instance I draw cartoons very well. But I could not study or take a professional coaching in it . Because our education system never allows us to do it. But liberal arts allows us. This is not studying a theoretical course but studying life, society, passion.
Int : Great you can continue regarding your internships.
Me: Presently I am doing my winter internship at PepsiCo handling the annual performance and development review of India region and working on the effective internal communication process through revamping the intranet. I also did my Internships in designing the recruitment cycle of 2 start-ups. Prior to it I was an associate business consultant of Freshersworld.Com a start up in IT recruitment. I also had my internship in marketing and campus relations. And did my project at Amaron batteries in designing the urine activated paper batteries for bio systems.
Int: Good ok you mentioned about a medical camp in tribal villages. Can you tell more about it ?
Me: explained in and out of the camp, how it is initiated and problems we faced, how did we motivate fellow students, how we organised and how it is being implemented even now.
Int: But Krishna you haven’t mentioned this more effectively in the application. Good I asked you. Now can you say down the line after 10 yrs where would you like to see yourself?
Me: Precisely I have two goals. Primarily to grow in my career. I wanted to pursue my research work in Organisation capability that deals with employee engagement and leadership capabilities of the organisations. Secondly I wanted to train the youth in developing the skills that suits the corporate environment.
Int: Can you elaborate on the second thing regarding the skills.
Me: Sure sir. As it is well known India is major constitute of villages. Where are the youth of villages studying .Not in IITs or NITs but in tier-2 and tier-3 colleges? The brilliant minds of India lack in possessing the skills required by the organisations name it IT or any field due to lack of infrastructure, funds. So I wanted to train these students in terms of skill development. I did the same by taking seminars in 32 colleges during my final year regarding the Interview tips, GD tips, Stage fear elimination. But alone I will not be doing it. It requires the corporate support and YIF can be a good support where I can network with brilliant minds of the country and mentored by the renowned faculty and network with other big names like Infosys Narayana Murthy, Idea, and Barclays.
Int; definitely you would be able to do that. Ok Krishna I can see that you have presented 25 papers with 1 international paper during your under graduation and participated in many extra and co-curricular activities. What about your master program?
Me: As it is a known fact IITs are hub for B.Techs but still I’m a core member of Dramatics society and Debating society. My zeal to act/perform in dramatics which I do not have any chances during my under graduation, I got in IIT and debating which I think I am good at. These are the two extra curricula’s I am part in IIT. Besides being the Media and PR head of Saamanjasya , The socio Business fest of IIT Kharagpur, a co – curricular activity.
Int: It seems you love interacting with people, name it the HR course you were pursuing or the extra curricula’s and co curricula’s. Good to see it. Can u say why do you want to break the flow of your career with YIF in middle?
Me: as I told you earlier the reasons like networking with top 50 brilliant minds, faculty, corporate biggies involved in this I would also mention once you climb the ladder name it from School to under graduation and UG to PG, the chance to meet people and network declines. Now If I go ahead with my Ph.D. I will be narrower entering a niche sector. So I wish to take the break and pursue my passion. Who knows at the end of the course I may find my solutions like I may not go for Ph.D. I may directly pursue my career from here.
Int: That’s true. Life takes wonderful twists and I too believe you will find answers here in YIF. So Krishna Do you have any queries?
Me: Yes sir. For me the course is a learning experience to proceed further in the career. But I could see a placement week in the website. So what careers can a fellow pursue after the course?
Int: Yes we planned for a placement week earlier. But now we cancelled it. Instead we did 4-5 rounds of counselling with fellows trying to identify their interest areas and grouped them together. To name few consulting, marketing, film making, NGO, Higher studies. And we are sending the resumes to different companies we are associated with. For instance consulting resumes to companies like Barclays, McKenzie and Film making to top directors of Bollywood and instead of placement week we are planning for individual placements. So the process is on and it will be completed by Feb end. Placement week disturbs students. For example student interested in NGO will be applying for consulting after seeing the pay scale and else. Did this answer your question?
Me: yah sir perfect.
Int: Ok Krishna nice talking to you. All the best.

Thus the PI round ended on other side there is one more panel which interviewed for only 3-5 min and some of my fellow applicants weren’t happy about it. Then came the GD and Group Exercise round.

Group Exercise:
We are students of 8 in number. We are all asked to stand in a line and given 15 min to strategize. The task is simple. We have to walk simultaneously towards a rope placed before us and have to jump/cross it all together at a time. Without talking or touching each other. We did it with little planning but there is a twist. To check the co-ordination 2 out of 8 will be blind folded. Fortunately one among them is me.

Group Discussion:

Topic: IS IPL ROBBING THE DEGNITY OF SPORTS?
Time unlimited unless and until the discussion is out of track/fish market scenario/fight/ repetition of discussion.
The ma’am decided who have to start and it’s a healthy discussion with terms like talent acquisition, foreign investment. I added my own points like directing the discussion from cricket to all other games like hockey league, also had some laughing moments when I compared test cricket to marriage and IPL to live in relation. After ample time ma’am decided to stop it and asked everyone to conclude. So at the end each and every one spoke to satisfactory levels.

That’s how the day at YIF ended. Now it’s waiting time for the results .

Few points I found to be improved in the process
  • o   Interaction with seniors … I could see no one there
  • o   Panel that interviewed for 3 min should stretch their interviews

At the end a small suggestion for the second round applicants

Make sure you take time to fill your application in detail because PI is all about your application. Mention in detail. Be confident and positive.

All the best.
