Day 1 to Orientation by Seniors

Now comes the First day In IIT Kharagpur

Entered the campus late night and had a informal meet with all the classmates of the new batch. We are allotted one of the latest halls among the 22 halls of residence in IIT with a dual room share and a attached bathroom resembling the Apartment architecture.

The first day started with the introductory seminar for all the PG students in the auditorium by the dean and heads of different departments and we were asked to move to a different auditorium for the registration process which is just 1 km away from the present location. Long lines to stand and hot sun welcomed us to the IIT.

After registration which ended in the late afternoon all of us rested our poor souls for a sleep followed by a delicious dinner ( being the first day ) in the night.

P.S:Food is not too good nor too bad all the stay we had till now for the past 2 months . After all 9000 bucks for 6 months

Orientation by seniors

Here comes the tough and interesting part of the newbiees in to IIT
The orientation classes by the seniors lasted for 10 days with every day a new event .

2.Business Quiz

3.Dramatics

4.Ad Design and making

5 things that business students must do before they graduate

India has more than 1,500 business schools as of now. Barring the top 50 to 75 colleges, most of the MBA colleges have very little to offer in terms of skills required to meet the demands of the job market.

Since MBA is a professional degree, all we do during MBA should revolve around building a good career for ourselves.
Students must strive to catch up with the industry needs and getting placed well. Here are five tips for Business Grads to focus on in order to make themselves more employable.

1. Brush up your language skills

Communication skills, undoubtedly, play a real important and crucial role in professional life in corporate India. For a fresh MBA graduate, it becomes all the more important from the campus recruitment viewpoint. If you are an MBA student, focus on polishing your communication skills in English and also learn a second language.
It's not a bad idea to join a finishing school to develop your personality, body language, inter-personal and social interaction skills.

2. Develop corporate awareness

What a recruiter likes to see in a candidate is the application orientation. Students in B-school study the concepts of management in their classes but hardly understand how this knowledge can be applied in real business scenario; there is thus a gap in application.
As students, it is imperative to understand what business is all about and how you can contribute to the growth of any organisation. That's because if you can justify how your skills are going to add to the growth of the organisation, then chances are that the interviewer will consider you right-fit to the organisation.

3. Develop team skills

Concentrate on developing leadership skills. Your employer would like to know how effectively you can work in a team and able to manage a group of people.
Wherever you work, you work in teams. NO MAN IS AN ISLAND.
Do not treat your management programme as just another degree you are going to get after two years. Think of it as a skill-enhancing programme. Concentrate on soft skills while pursuing management.

4.Build knowledge

Keep updating and refreshing your knowledge through peer learning. Participate in all kinds of group activities like group case studies, simulations, industry interaction programmes and inter- college level academic and extra-curricular competitions.
Technical knowledge along with good inter personal skills are the key qualities companies look for in a potential candidate. Focus on improving these skills right from the commencement of the course.

5.Carefully select internships and placement

Search for internships while pursuing your course. Your internship is the only opportunity where you can exhibit your skills by translating them in performance. At the same time, you learn about a particular industry and its operations in detail.
Ensure that you select an internship in the same profile or industry you intend to work in future. It helps you justify your knowledge and leverage the internship during an interview.
Select a job / placement irrespective of the designation and salary. Starting career as a sales trainee should not bother you. The job description / job content should be the major consideration.
Going for an MBA programme is itself a very important decision in its own right, if we be a little careful about the things we do and the decisions we make while pursuing a management programme, we can ensure that things go well during the placements.

A Day in life of a KGPian

So every one is actually wondered how is a typical day for a IITian specially KGpian is
Here we go !

A day in Life of a Kgpian

*A new day dawns with the chirping of the birds and the loud cry of the alarm, followed
by a flurry of activities, some known and some unknown. KGPians should consider
themselves lucky if they manage to grab a quick bite before huffing and puffing their way
to the classes in their bicycle.

*Classes are enjoyable and thought provoking with case studies, presentations and role
plays. KGPians usually get a cup of coffee from NESCAFE to remain all ears to one
lecture after the other. Just when they think that the class has ended, there is a surprise
quiz waiting for them or sometimes a great guest lecture.

*After the grueling day, the students unwind with a cup of hot chai and fried maggi at
TIKKA. The greenery around is so mesmerizing; that it entices them to take a long
stroll along the lush green paths. They also take the heat off by engaging in a game of
basketball or lawn tennis.

*But KGPians never forget that they have an assignment to submit tomorrow, so
they rush back and start working on it, sometimes alone, sometimes as a group. The
brainstorming is at its best when they are having dinner at VEGGIES.

*Few hours into the assignment, they realize that they have to put up a good fight against
their drooping eyelids which makes them rush to CCD for a steaming mug of coffee.

*Finally KGPians return to their rooms and hit off their bed realizing that their day has
come to an end with just a few hours for their day to begin.

At last The dream comes true

Hi Guys

the blog has been dumb since the results were out and no doubt the reason is that i'm not shortlisted in the final list besides i am being in the main list of NITIE ,IIFM,TAPMI .I felt dejected and lost because of the negative result. Decided to take break and hit after 2 yrs to the institutes TISS/SCMHRD/XLRI and joined Freshersworld.Com as business consultant on may 6 th and started earning ever since before the results came out .And first list was out and i removed from the MHRM 2011-13 Pagal guy thread and also Facebook group i created MHRM IIT KGP 2011-13  I gave admin access to others and left hopes and started enjoying for the full in cool climate of Bangalore .

One day suddenly i got mail from IIT KGP  that i am selected for the course in the final list on 17-06-2011 as a wonderful delicious surprise. As some one said i felt lyk flying in air ..... felt lyk hang overed after a hell of party night .

Immediately told my manager and he agreed and now packing bag back to leave office where i had wonderful 2 months in butiful city of bangalore . Now
IIT KGP
i'm gonna hit you hard!

Saturday 9 April 2011

Exactly 15 Days before the results

Hello Every one

Exactly 15 more days for the results to hit the sites and here came the first speculation. Some of the students received mails from the admission team to update their JMET  details like application numbers, registration numbers and score.

Hmmmm i took the risk of not paying the fee to NITIE and wait for the IIT Kgp results and on the other hand some of the applicants recieving the mails made my heart beat rouse to 300 times a min .Chalo yaar wat the heck is this ? Am i playing a spoilsport with my career ? And the number of people receiving the mail increased day by day and tension went to its extremes and I immediately booked tickets for attending IIFM Bhopal GD/PI .

And surprisingly i got the mail today for updation of details and i felt happy now.Great sigh of relief but one of my friends started crying because she didn't get the mail.I am such an arrogant that i knew the phone numbers of admin team but why am i panicking without calling therm .Did that at the end and he cleared that mails are only to the students who haven't submitted the JMET scorecard xerox copy at the time of GD/PI .Damn god I'am relieved now and even my friend.

ABOUT MHRM AND IIT KGP

It would be a matter of fun and foolishness if i explain something about IIT KGP  . The largest of all the IITs in India,which received 200+ crore fund this yr 2011 & with Asia's largest library ...this vedio better explains you wat is IIT KGP

About IIT Kgp ...click here

And now coming to MHRM  course let me start with the video presentation which was presented to us by the seniors during our GD/PI . here is the link

VIDEO PRESENTATION ON MHRM...click here

And most of the aspirants think that MHRM is a new course with only 2 batches .But the fact is that it is pretty old course in par with XLRI,SCMHRD,MHROD.....,.,.,..Started in the year 1982 as M.Tech in HR was well established right from the inception and being a govt branded institute attracted all the PSU s with packages varying from 6.5-8.5 L per annum. But according to the changing trends in the market, the department of humanities which actually handles this course added new subjects in to the course and shifted gears from GATE to JMET  and named the course as MHRM -Master of Human Resource Management .

The result of changing the name of the course immediately reflected in attracting many private consultancies for summer interns .So my dear aspirants and friends this is not a new course ,it is 28 yr old course .

And the website for the MHRM course and Department of HSS is

Case Study & GD

I would like to share the case study which was posed to us during the MHRM interview

CASE:

A small firm ...basically a software firm which started in 2005 with 30 employees had some rules as a company policy.only candidates with one yr experience were taken in to the company .in 2011 the company grew to 700 employees and in the company review it is known that some of the candidates are with fake profiles and fake experiences.some company fired such people and in deep survey it is known that almost 70 % people are with fake experiences.some company thought of changing its policy ...

Now u being a HR manager
1.wat will u do against these fake profiles ?
2.will u alter/change the company policy ?

Now as discussed in the earlier blog we were given 2 min to think of ourselves and then 10 min discussion started .it is a group of 10 people .with 3 freshers and 7 work ex people. As usual i stick to my GD tricks and i didnt started it and 2 fought for the start and it went on .not a fish market at all . i entered as number 3 and shooted out 3-4 new points through which the discussion carried on
after the discussion every individual was given 1 min to conclude and 1.5 min to write the conclusions

the conclusions we arrived at are

*Do not change the company policy else go for the alteration that instead of 1 yr experience go for candidates with certified courses

*Take the assistance of NSR and NAASCOM for the background check of candidates

*Take the assistance ant tie up with job portals like FRESHERSWORLD.COM which can provide freshers bcoz going for campus placements to a small company is cost incurred process

*Grill the candidates in interviews

*Black list the companies which provide fake experiences

and thus ended the case study and GD
I had a good value added points like job portal assistance and grill through interviews.
A very good case and followed by the interview .Do not forget that Interview panel are the judges to the GD is well .So ur GD reflects your interview.

MY GD/PI - MHRM IIT Kgp

First document verification which happens for 40min - 1 hour

 then
follows the MHRM presentation ........followed by queries and answers to the questions posed by us the faculty who were interview personnel and student co-ordinators

THEN COMES THE GD ...ITS BASICALLY A CASE STUDY....5 MIN TO STUDY THE CASE ....10 MIN TO DISCUSS ABT THE CASE ........AND ONE MIN EACH TO WIND UP INDIVIDUALLY AND 1.5 MIN TO WRITE UR SOLUTION TO THE CASE

THEN FOLLOWS THE PERSONAL INTERVIEW WHICH IS A PURE HR ...NO TECHY QUESTIONS ...UR PERFORMANCE IN GD REFLECTS UR TIME AND THE INTERVIEW GOES ....

1.good morning sir
